About the Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a Network Engineer (Industrial) in our Newcastle office. Preference will be given to engineers with 3-5 years proven experience in Industrial Networks and exposure to SCADA, PLC, Telemetry and project execution. As an engineer your role will include liaising with our customers and internal stakeholders, you will be responsible for Industrial Network projects, from developing scopes of work and functional specifications, top hardware selection, configuration and deployment.

Candidate Profile:

  • We will highly regard candidates with extensive experience in Industrial Control and Automation Communications including design, development, testing and commissioning.

  • Proven experience with L2, L3 and firewall system design, documentation, implementation and deployment.

  • Proven experience with Advanced traffic management and Dynamic Routing design.

  • Candidates with experience in legacy control systems and experience with modernisation strategies will be highly valued.

  • Extensive Understanding of Industrial communications protocols.

  • Extensive understanding of high-speed convergent L2 Network topologies and their interaction.

  • Experience and capability to design deploy and administer NetGeneration Firewalls are highly desirable.

  • Experience in RF path analysis and Wireless systems design and deployment (PtP, PtMP, WIFI etc.)

  • Be multi-skilled across IP Network Engineering, Communications and Electronic systems including WAN, LAN, IEEE 802.3 protocols, TCP/IP, Security, Industrial Ethernet, PoE, VoIP etc.

  • Have a strong history with industrial wired network vendor products and technologies (including Cisco, juniper, Siemens, Hirschmann, Moxa.)

  • Have solid knowledge in using industry-standard network monitoring and management tools (Solarwinds, Splunk, Prime, PRTG etc.) and develop monitoring tool requirements for new services, update or modify existing tools to accommodate newly added elements.

  • Ability to perform site surveys (network design and security) and produce detailed reports.

  • Familiarity in hosting and infrastructure,  virtualisation experience using VMWare.

  • Thorough understanding of Cat 5e, Cat 6 and OM3/4 – OS2 fiber optic cabling systems.

  • Attention to detail, testing and documentation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Experience and Skills:

  • IT network certifications (CCNP,CCIE – or industry recognised equivalent).

  • Client focused with strong communication skills.

  • PLC/SCADA system design and development.

  • Industrial communications, network design and development.

  • Telemetry and RTU experience using ClearSCADA and Schneider RTU’s. 

  • Experience with Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, GE PLCs.

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco WAN, LAN and industrial switching products including IE and Catalyst switches.

  • Experience in performing site surveys of customer environments to determine the pre/post-state of a network.

  • Experience in optimizing WAN/LAN and other capacity management practices.

  • Detailed knowledge of tasks related to maintaining complex network systems supporting IT / OT environment.

  • Experience in a large scale and multitenancy network with distributed local area networks in industrial operation.

  • Experience in Network troubleshooting, Problem solving and understanding of root cause analysis techniques.

  • Exposure to the critical communication systems for operating large processing, mining/heavy machinery.
